Dark Star Radio has officially donated $100 to sponsor one hole during the Got Your Six Support Dogs Golf Outing. Our registration is complete, our name is on the sponsorship, and somewhere on that golf course there will be a hole supported by an independent underground radio station.
Honestly, that feels extremely on-brand for us. ⛳🖤
A Tradition We Are Proud to Continue
Whenever the Got Your Six Support Dogs event appears across our social media feeds, Dark Star Radio tries to sponsor a hole. We have supported this event before, and we are proud to continue that tradition this year.
Dark Star Radio may be an independent station operating without a giant corporate budget, but supporting our community has always been part of our purpose. We believe you do not have to be wealthy to make a difference. You simply have to care enough to contribute what you can.
For us, this year, that contribution was a $100 hole sponsorship.
Why This Cause Is Personal
Dark Star Radio founder and station director Jessika Darkstar is a disabled U.S. Army veteran who served from 2005 to 2013, including a deployment to Iraq. Because of that experience, supporting veterans is not an abstract marketing opportunity. It is personal.
Veterans and first responders often return from traumatic experiences carrying struggles that may not be visible to the people around them. Support, independence, understanding, accessibility, and community can make an enormous difference in what comes next.
Got Your Six Support Dogs provides specialized service dogs to veterans and first responders affected by post-traumatic stress disorder and sexual trauma. The organization trains and matches service dogs with recipients, with the dog and training process provided at no cost.
That is work worth supporting.
You Do Not Need Billions to Help People
Recently, someone claimed they could not help anyone because they were not a billionaire.
We disagree. Helping people is not something reserved for the wealthy.
You can volunteer. You can share a fundraiser. You can offer your professional skills. You can introduce someone to a useful connection. You can check on a person who feels forgotten. You can donate five dollars, twenty dollars, or sponsor one golf hole for one hundred dollars.
No single person has to solve every problem. Community is created when ordinary people repeatedly choose not to look away. Dark Star Radio cannot fund the entire organization, but we could sponsor one hole. So that is what we did.
Small actions become something much larger when enough people take them together.
