Tattoos are often called art, rebellion, or fashion—but they’ve always been more than that. Across history, they’ve carried power, identity, and memory. In Polynesia, tattoos marked connection to the divine. In Norse culture, runes were carved into flesh as protection. In modern life, tattoos still whisper that same truth: the body is a spellbook, and ink is its script.
When I spoke on Mourning Coffee about tattoos as sigils, it wasn’t just poetry. Ink carries intent. Pain seals the offering. The body remembers what paper forgets.
Ink as Sigils
Every tattoo is a spell circle. A serpent etched on skin isn’t only art—it’s transformation waiting to unfold. A feather, a rune, a phrase—each becomes a sigil humming quietly beneath the surface. Tattoos are living code, written in blood.
Pain as Offering
All magic costs something, and tattoos make that cost physical. The sting of the needle, the bead of blood, the healing process—they are offerings. Not to a distant god, but to the spell itself. That’s why tattoos feel alive: they’ve been fed.
Body as Grimoire
Books burn, but the body carries. Each tattoo is a page in a grimoire no one else can erase. A guardian bird across your shoulder. A mantra spelled across your ribs. Every mark is a testimony—a memory turned into spellwork.
Manifestation Without Expectation
Here’s the secret I’ve learned: tattoos manifest. The act of placing a symbol on your body calls its meaning into your life. It’s metaphoric, yes—but somehow it works. Still, you can’t demand results. Expectation strangles the spell. Place the mark with open intent, then let it live. The magic unfolds when you surrender control.
That’s why today’s set wove between goth, ritual electro, and metal—music as scar, music as ink, music as offering. From Siouxsie and the Banshees to Motorhead, each track joined the ritual.
If you missed the live show, you can still step into the spell:

The ink dries, but the spell never does. And the same is true of music. Both carve into us, permanent and alive.
